Step 1
Record the temperature, dashboard message, load, and road conditions
Step 2
Note visible steam or fluid loss only from a safe distance
Step 3
Never open a hot or pressurized coolant reservoir
Stop safely when temperature rises
Follow the truck manufacturer's instructions for an overheating warning or stop-engine message. Find a safe place to stop rather than continuing under load to see whether the gauge settles.
Protect against hot coolant
A cooling system can remain pressurized after the engine stops. Do not remove a cap or touch a hot hose. Share the warning, temperature, operating conditions, and any visible leak with qualified repair personnel.
Include recent cooling-system work
Mention recent service, coolant additions, belt concerns, load, grade, and ambient conditions. Radiators, hoses, fans, thermostats, water pumps, and related engine issues can produce overlapping symptoms that require assessment.
